Wolfram Starke (born April 9, 1922 - February 20, 2011 ) was a German football player. In Meerane he played first division football between 1949 and 1955.

Athletic career

In the spring of 1948 Wolfram Starke won the Glauchau district league with SG Meerane. With victories over SG Leipzig-Gohlis Nord (1-0) and SG Dresden-Friedrichstadt (3-1), the Meeraner qualified for the 1st East Zone Championship . There, the team around their striker Starke advanced to the semi-finals, where they lost 2: 5 to SG Freiimfelde Halle . With two goals from Starke, Meerane had meanwhile led 2-0. In the two previous games, he had ensured progress with one goal each. SG Meerane was also represented as the Saxon football champion at the 2nd Eastern Zone Championship and reached the semi-finals again. Before that, Starke had contributed to the 3-2 victory over SG Babelsberg with two goals in the quarter-finals . In the semifinals he did not score, and Meerane lost to Fortuna Erfurt 3: 4 after extra time.

By participating in the East Zone Championship, the Meeraner had qualified for the first season of the GDR-wide East Zone League (later the GDR Oberliga ). In the team, which now appears as an SG unit, Starke was used as the only player in all 26 point games in 1949/50, scoring four goals. In the 1950/51 season, the highest GDR league was called the Oberliga, as the GDR league had been installed under it . The Meeraner footballers now started as a company sports community (BSG) progress and had to contest 34 point games in the league. Starke was only missing two encounters and this time came up with five hits. In the 1951/52 season he was the Meeraner top scorer with 23 goals, but the team had to relegate to the GDR league after three years of first class. In the GDR league year 1952/53 Starke was again the most successful goalscorer of the BSG progress with 25 goals, was also top scorer in the GDR league and rose with his team immediately back to the league. There progress Meerane was able to maintain two more seasons. Also in 1953/54 Starke was a regular player as a striker with 25 appearances in 28 point games and scored seven goals. In the relegation season 1954/55 he had to sit out several times due to injuries and could only be used in thirteen league games in which he scored two goals. Wolfram Starke then ended his career in higher-class football after 131 first division games with 40 goals and 23 second division games with 25 goals.
