The Wolfsschluchthöhle , also known as Wolfsloch , is a natural cave in the Wolfsschluchtfelsen above the village of Gutenberg , a district of Lenningen on the Swabian Alb . It is easy to reach from the nearby hiking car park between Schopfloch and Krebsstein and is located roughly in the middle between the two expanded visitor caves Gutenberger Höhle and Gußmannshöhle . Like the Moon Milk Cave on the other side of the valley, the Wolfsschluch Cave is finely lined with calcite sintered crystals.
Course of the cave
After the approximately 0.8 meter high entrance, the cave widens so that you can comfortably stand upright. In the first and largest chamber there are three free-standing stalagmites. Straight ahead, the corridor tapers to a creeping path that ends after 10 meters in a narrow throat. If you turn right after the entrance corridor in the entrance chamber, past the stalactites, a narrow chimney opens, which can be easily climbed. This is followed by a crawl space less than 0.4 meters narrow, which should only be explored by experienced cave walkers with the appropriate equipment, as it tapers ever further and is not without danger due to sharp stones.
natural reserve
The cave is under nature protection. It is not closed, but should not be visited between October and March in order not to scare away the bats that hibernate there .
