Womelsdorf is a city in the western part of Berks County in the US state of Pennsylvania with about 2,600 inhabitants (as of 2000).
history
The foundation stone for the city's founding was laid by John Womelsdorf in 1762. The city was originally called Middle Town. In 1774 the name was changed. John Womelsdorf was the eldest son of Daniel Womelsdorf. He came from Diedenshausen in the Wittgensteiner Land . He reached Philadelphia in 1724. On November 13, 1793, George Washington visited the city. He found out about the progress in canal construction. In 1833 750 people lived in Womelsdorf.
