Word Gets Around is the first album by the Welsh band Stereophonics . The music was written by the band together, while the lyrics were written by singer Kelly Jones . The album peaked at number 6 on the UK album charts.

The album was recorded in six different studios in the UK and mixed in the Gateway Studios in Portland in the US state of Maine mastered . The responsible producers were the duo Bird and Bush consisting of Marshall Bird & Steve Bush, the mastering was done by Bob Ludwig, President of Gateway Mastering & DVD. The album was released on August 25, 1997 by V2 Records .

Singles

  • First single was Local Boy in the Photograph . The text is based on a true story that happened in Flint , North Wales. A local boy died of rail suicide . The following day, the local newspaper featured him on the front page. Singer Kelly Jones knew the boy and thought he deserved an honor in the form of the song. The Q Awards 2007 of the magazine Q won the song the Q Classic Song Award .
  • The second single More Life in a Tramp's Vest tells the life from the point of view of a supermarket employee who packs the goods he has bought into bags.
  • A Thousand Trees , released as the third single, is about a respected high school gym teacher who ruins his career by having a sexual relationship with a student.
  • Traffic was the last release from the album Word Gets Around . It was released in October and reached number 20 on the charts.
