Workiva is an enterprise software company based in Ames, Iowa . The lead product developed in 2008 is Wdesk, a cloud-based platform for enterprise management and auditing software that enables companies to prepare and file financial and compliance reports for the SEC and other government regulators. The Wdesk platform integrates information from a variety of content formats, including spreadsheets, presentation documents, emails and other unstructured data, into a single cloud-based report. The company employs approximately 1,300 people and has offices in 16 cities in the United States, Canada and Europe .

history

Workiva Inc. was founded as WebFilings LLC in California in August 2008 by six entrepreneurs - four engineers and two accountants who previously served as chief financial officers of public corporations. In July 2014, the company's name was changed to Workiva LLC and converted to a Delaware limited company in September 2014. Five of the founders were previously senior executives at Engineering Animation Inc. (EAI), a 3D computer animation company based in Ames. EAI was acquired by EDS / UGS PLM in 2000 and is now a Siemens division .

Three of the six founding Still active Workiva: CEO Martin VanderPloeg, Ph.D . (Former Professor of Engineering at Iowa State University (ISU) and EAI Founder and COO); Jeffrey Trom, Ph.D., CTO (former CTO at EAI); and Joseph Howell, vice president of strategic initiatives (former CFO of several public companies).

Vanderploeg has been COO and Managing Director of Workiva since 2008. Vanderploeg has more than 20 years of experience in mechanical engineering and advising start-up companies. Before founding Workiva in 2008, Vanderploeg was the founder of EAI and was Executive Vice President of EAI from 1993 until it was acquired by Unigraphics Solutions in 2000. Vanderploeg was EAI's CTO from 1989 to 1999. After the takeover of EAI Vanderploeg, he continued to work as a consultant for various technology start-ups.

WebFilings changed its name to Workiva in June 2014 and went public in December 2014 (NYSE: WK).

Customers include Amgen, Colgate Palmolive , Chevron and Google .

Applications

Workiva's first SaaS product was SEC reporting software that enables companies to automate their SEC filings using a proprietary system for document tags and links. The platform also enabled companies to file electronically directly with the SEC, using the SEC-required XBRL (Extensible Business Reporting Language) business markup language. A Workiva customer was the first to file Inline XBRL with the SEC.

Missoula and Bozeman, MT; Chicago, IL ; Columbus, GA; Dallas, TX; Miami, Florida ; New York, NY; Scottsdale, AZ; Seattle, WA; and international offices in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan , Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario , London, Great Britain and Amsterdam, NL.

In a May 2016 Gartner Magic Quadrant analysis of the top ten performance management software companies for the financial sector, Workiva was in the Leader Quadrant alongside three others: SAP SE , Oracle and BlackLine. In Deloitte's 2015 Technology Fast 500 survey of the fastest growing technology companies in America, Workiva ranked 129th out of all software companies. In February 2017, it received the BIG Innovation Award from the Business Intelligence Group, New Jersey, along with 29 other companies .

Workiva was selected as one of the best SaaS apps in the world at the APPEALIE SaaS Awards 2018. In 2016 Forbes magazine rated Workiva as one of the 25 best public cloud computing companies. Workiva was ranked # 4 in Fortune Magazine's Top 10 Best Large Workplaces in Technology in 2016 and # 6 in Fortune Magazine's Top 50 Best Workplaces for Camaraderie.
