This article is about the tournaments of the Sportingbet.com World Series of Snooker in the 2009/10 season .

It was the second and last year in which this tournament series was held, which was co-organized by the multiple world champion John Higgins . Four players from the top of the world snooker rankings and some wildcard players from the host nation competed per tournament .

The tournament series should make the snooker sport popular in countries that are not visited by the Main Tour . However , there were no world ranking points .

Due to the allegations of bribery against co-organizer John Higgins and the Players Tour Championship , newly introduced on the Main Tour , which follows a similar approach to the World Series, the World Series was ultimately discontinued.

1st tournament in Killarney

The first tournament of the 2009 World Series of Snooker took place on May 16-17 at the INEC, Gleneagle Hotel in the town of Killarney . The tournament was officially called the Champion of Champions Challenge . In the first round, ten (instead of 15) reds were played again. This was already regulated in the final tournament of the previous season .

In the preliminary round, all four professionals were able to prevail, even if both Ken Doherty and Jimmy White were brought to the brink of defeat by the young local players. In the semifinals, the 2009 World Cup finals and the WSoS Grand Finals of the previous season (08/09) between John Higgins and Shaun Murphy were reissued . As in the Grand Final, Murphy was able to prevail and met Jimmy White in the final, who could win quite clearly with 5: 1.

2nd tournament in Prague

The second tournament of the 2009/10 season took place on October 17th and 18th in the Aréna Sparta Podvinný Mlýn in Prague . In the preliminary round Lukáš Křenek made the best impression of the wildcard players and even managed to win a frame against the reigning world champion John Higgins shortly before the end . The other three professional players won their games against the Czech local heroes without losing frames. In the semifinals, Jimmy White was able to eliminate Higgins with surprising clarity, while Graeme Dott defeated his compatriot Stephen Maguire , who already did not show his best snooker in the quarterfinal match against Kryštof Michal . The final between White and Dott finally ended 5-3 for the Englishman, who celebrated his first victory at the World Series.
