The World eSports Association (short: WESA ) is an E-Sport - Federation , which on 15. April 2016 was established after one year of development. It was founded by the ESL together with eight esports teams.

The founding members were the well-known esports clubs Fnatic , Natus Vincere , Team EnVyUs , FaZe Clan , Virtus.pro , G2 Esports , Mousesports and Ninjas in Pajamas . However, the FaZe Clan left the organization a day after it was founded, as they feared being trapped in a contract that stipulates where they can and cannot play.

The association wants to regulate professional teams tournaments better, ensure the quality and advocate the participation of the players in the formation of the leagues. The actual tournaments are held offline. The WESA also wants to try to create schedules for fans, players, organizers and live streamers. The esports expert Paul Chaloner emphasizes the "many years of experience" of the actors of the WESA, but sees "more a seizure of power than an attempt to professionalize the scene".

Through a special “profit-share-system”, approved leagues have to cede money to the WESA and thus the teams. The company's headquarters are in Zug , Switzerland . Members are not bound to the association and there are no exclusive contracts. On August 24, 2016, television sports manager Ken Hershman was appointed Executive Chairman and Commissioner of the WESA.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Paladins are some of the esports disciplines held so far . The Liegenber commissioner is the lawyer Pietro Fringuelli , who has already gained experience in the traditional sports industry.
