The word holder (also: spokesman ) in Hanover was from the Middle Ages the name for the spokesman for the city's jury .

history

The term word holder was used in Hanover as early as the 15th century . During the Reformation in the 16th century, it was the name for the speaker of the opinion , later for the chairman of the honest community .

From 1821 to 1933 the chairman of the Citizens' Board (BVK) was designated as word holder: The word holder could be elected by the BVK with an absolute majority and together with his deputy and the secretary (also: " record keeper ") and his deputy formed the board of the BVK.
