Wrongkong was a German - Canadian pop band. It was founded in Nuremberg in 2007 .
history
“The name was created as a modification of Hong Kong , combined with a latent feeling of being in the wrong place. But not from the film character King Kong ! ”Explains the band Wrongkong, referring to the experience of alienation in Coppola's film Lost in Translation .
Founded by Thomas Wurm, Cyrena Dunbar and Martin Kaiser during studio recordings for The Strike Boys' fourth album ( Being in a Boygroup , Stereo Deluxe, 2006), guitarist David Lodhi and drummer Markus Wurm joined first, followed by keyboardist Claus Friedrich Wrong Kong.
In the summer of 2007, shortly after the release of their self-titled debut album in the USA on Minty Fresh Records at Cravefest in Canada, they received the award for the "Best Unsigned Electronic Music Act" with the video for Real Boy developed and produced by the band members themselves .
This was followed shortly afterwards by winning the "Toronto Exclusive Award" and in early summer 2008 shortly after the European release of the EU version (the EU version differs from the US version in 6 tracks) of the debut album on the Modernsoul label in May 08 the victory in the band competition Becks On Stage. Appearances are made in the following months at Southside , Taubertal , Sonnenrot , the Bavarian Open or the Weinturm Open Air, among others .
After another single ( Sweat ) with, among other things, a remix by Malente , Wrongkong released the PLUG EP in early summer 2010 and went on tour again, which ended in September with a performance at the Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg .
In November 2011, Crystal Clear, the first harbinger of the new album So Electric , will be released on January 13, 2012 along with the single My Dearest Enemy on the AdP label. As part of the release tour, another single, Dear Euphoria, will be released in March 2012 . Wrongkong are awarded the City of Nuremberg's Culture Prize.
In autumn 2012 So Electric will be released in the USA by the label Minty Fresh .
In January 2013, the single See It Coming was released , the forerunner for the album Kill the Should and Make a Do , which was released on April 5, 2013.
At the end of 2017, the label announced the end of the band, after which Wrongkong played two sold-out farewell concerts.
