Vsevolod Mykolaiowytsch Petriw (born March 2 . Jul / 14. March 1883 greg. In Kiev , Russian Empire ; † 10. July 1948 in Regensburg , Germany ) was an officer in the Imperial Russian Army and Ukrainian military leader and politician.
Life
Vsevolod Petriw finished the Kiev Vladimir Cadet Corps in late August 1900 and was subsequently at the Pavlovsk Higher Military School in Saint Petersburg until 1902, after which he went to the Imperial Russian Army as a lieutenant. In 1910 Petriv graduated from the Tsar Nikolai Military Academy in Moscow . Thereupon Lutzk became commander of the 165th Infantry Regiment in Kiev, worked his way up to the position of staff officer and then took part in the First World War and the Ukrainian-Soviet War . After the First World War, Petriv received the rank of colonel and worked as chief of staff in Kiev. In 1918, as regimental leader, he was involved in the suppression of the Kiev arsenal factory revolt . Since June 1918 he was on the General Staff of the newly founded Ukrainian State and actively involved in the formation of the Ukrainian military units. On July 9, 1919, he became Minister of War of the Ukrainian People's Republic and on November 5, Deputy Minister of War. In June 1922 he voluntarily withdrew to a camp and emigrated to Khust , where he worked as a teacher. He then taught at the Ukrainian University of Education in Prague .
After the rest of Carpathian Ukraine declared its independence on March 15, 1939 in Khust, he refused the supreme command of the armed forces of Carpathian Ukraine. Under Yaroslav Stetsko's brief , independent Ukraine under Yaroslav Stetsko , proclaimed by an assembly of OUN - ( B ) members in Lemberg on June 30, 1941, Petriv was its defense minister . During the Second World War he took part in various negotiations about the fate of Ukraine with the Germans. On several occasions he received offers to lead the Ukrainian Liberation Army (1943) and in 1945 the Ukrainian National Army , which he turned down. However, he was one of the closest advisers to their commander Pawlo Schandruk . In 1945 Petriw emigrated to Germany and died in a camp for displaced persons in Regensburg after a serious illness caused by malnutrition and overwork.
