Wulf Olm

Wulf Olm (* 1942 in Berlin ; † April 5, 2007 there ) was a German photographer .

Wulf Olm completed his training as a photographer, laboratory assistant and graduate photographer. He is one of the most important German sports and animal photographers .

Life

Wulf Olm grew up in Berlin-Karlshorst and always had a strong bond with the local trotting track . After his apprenticeship and distance learning at the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Leipzig , he worked from 1966 as a photo reporter for the Junge Welt , the organ of the FDJ . He devoted himself to sports photography and was one of the best in the GDR in this field . Olm has won numerous prizes in Europe , including Spain , with his pictures . In 1986 he switched to the Berliner Zeitung . In the meantime he had also made a name for himself in reportage photography.

After the fall of the Wall in 1989, he discovered his love for animals. He bought several racehorses and let them u. a. train from Erich Schmidtke in Karlshorst. After his death, he sold his horses to riding stables and finally turned to animal photography. At the Tierpark Berlin - he had already helped to set it up as a teenager - he was a welcome guest and even had exhibitions there.

Wulf Olm, who last lived in the Lichtenberg district, died of cancer in April 2007 after a year and a half illness. His grave is in the Karlshorster and Neue Friedrichsfelder Friedhof in Berlin-Karlshorst .
