Wunderbuntd is a music group from Freiberg .

The Wunderbuntd group, founded in Freiberg / Saxony in 1987, has established itself primarily through its Rio Reiser Night. The band's own German rock titles with socially critical texts complete the program. In addition, Wunderbuntd also has theater projects as well as songs and programs for children in changing line-ups.

history

The name of the group refers to the first song program “Everywhere is Wonderland” at the time of the political upheaval caused by glasnost and perestroika . The four founding members Soldi (Isolde Lommatzsch), Jens Lommatzsch, Zwiebel ( Olaf Stelmecke ) and Susi (Susanne Peupelmann) founded their "Bund" and toured with chanson-like concert programs and musical children's theater pieces through the south of the GDR in search of a "wonderland", “Because black and white are not colors.” The songs became rockier as early as 1988 when the drummer Stefan Riehl and soon afterwards the guitarist Manoli Melidonie and the saxophonist Dirk Treptow joined them. The lyrics of the own songs were mainly written by Olaf Stelmecke, musical templates came from Isolde Lommatzsch. Cover songs, e.g. B. by Rio Reiser and Ton Steine Scherben , Neil Young , Joni Mitchell and Procol Harum , made the concert evening danceable.

With “What does love mean here?” The band made their theatrical debut at the Freiberg Theater, the lyrics were newly set to music. In cooperation with the actors Beatrice Bauke, Karina Koppenhöfer, Jörg Simmat and Jan Reinartz, an extraordinary production was created that saw over 50 performances between 1989 and 1991. This success was followed by the student musical “The Little People of Swabedoo” in 1995, from which the band recorded a soundtrack. In this musical, the typical Wunderbuntd wind instrument with saxophone (Dirk), trumpet (Philippe Letocart) and trombone (Christoph Willenberg) established itself, which reappeared in the rock drama “Charon” in 1998 (Jörg Simmat played the leading role as Charon). In the same year the band released their first children's song cassette "Kinderlieder 1", a compilation of the most beautiful songs from previous children's programs. 2001 saw the premiere of the “Rio Reiser Night” at Tivoli Freiberg, since then the program has been continuously developed, and an unplugged version for three also exists alongside the big band version.

Wunderbuntd published their “Children's Songs 2” (Text / Music: Isolde Lommatzsch) in 2005 with a picture book (Illustrations: Jana Hesse) in their own Wunderbundt publishing house, while the children's program “Picture Book Concert” was developed at the same time. The first rock CD "DA." With its own songs for the 20th anniversary was released in 2007 with a new line-up, with the title track being a cover version as a tribute to Ton Steine Scherben.

In 2009, the stage music and the soundtrack for the play "Odysseus" were produced for the Central Saxon Theater (text: Manuel Schöbel, music: Isolde Lommatzsch) and the Christmas CD "Himmlische Zeiten für Kinder" was released by Ökotopia-Verlag / Münster.

In the play " Franziskus - A Rock Poem with Music by Rio Reiser ", which was held in 2011 for the 33rd Dt. Ev. Kirchentag was premiered in Dresden, brings together experiences from 20 years of stage work. Jörg Simmat as Franziskus implements the dramatic text by Isolde Lommatzsch sensitively and powerfully, the music by Rio Reiser and Ton Steine Scherben reflects the feelings and thoughts of the saint in his struggle for reforms. The audio book CD was released at the same time as the production; excerpts from the rock poem were also shown for the band's 25th anniversary in 2012 in the Freiberg Tivoli. The CD “Kinderlieder 3” (text / music: Isolde Lommatzsch) was released for this meanwhile traditional Maundy Thursday event, which was presented shortly afterwards on Deutschlandfunk in the program “Kakadu”. On Maundy Thursday 2013, the rock band released their live CD "Rio-Reiser-Nacht", on which excerpts from a concert in Nordhausen can be heard. The band announced their farewell concert in Freiberg Tivoli on April 9, 2020.
