Xaver Edmund Karl von Mellenthin
Xaver Edmund Karl von Mellenthin (born September 29, 1827 in Glambeck , † August 24, 1915 in Berlin ) was a Prussian officer .
Life
He came from the noble family Mellenthin .
During the war against Denmark , Mellenthin crossed on March 15, 1864 as captain of the 8th Company in the 5th Brandenburg Infantry Regiment No. 48 with 160 men in requisitioned boats from Heiligenhafen to liberate the island of Fehmarn from the hands of Danes. For this successful commando operation he received the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class with swords. The Fehmarans saw Mellenthin as a liberator, erected a monument in his honor in Burg on Fehmarn and named a square after him. A portrait of Mellenthin still hangs in the historic town hall.
He was married to Charlotte Johanne von Zwehl (born December 29, 1827, † April 5, 1902).
