Xavier Charles

Xavier Charles (* 1979 in Châlons-en-Champagne ) is a French clarinetist who is considered one of the most important musicians on the improvised music scene in France.

Act

Charles initially worked with Claude Tchamitchian and the improvisation ensemble Dicotylédone . Represented at festivals in France and internationally, he often appeared with Jacques Di Donato and Frédéric Le Junter. He also worked with Martin Tetrault, The Ex , Cor Fuhler , Pierre Berthet, Etage 34, Axel Dörner / John Butcher , Otomo Yoshihide , Gétatchèw Mèkurya , Christian Wallumrød , Jean-Pierre Drouet , Jérôme Jeanmart, Jean Pallandre, Marc Pichelin, Chris Cutler , Martine Altenburger, Camel Zékri, Emmanuelle Pellegrini, Michel Doneda and Frédéric Blondy. Charles also composed for the theater, mostly for productions at the Theater François Lazaro .

Charles works on the boundaries of different musical genres such as contemporary chamber music, noise rock or electronically alienated music. As an organizer, he organized the Densités music festival .
