Xavier Espot Miró (born February 14, 1953 in Escaldes-Engordany , Andorra ) is an Andorran politician and diplomat .

Life

After attending school at the French primary school in his hometown Escaldes-Engordany and the secondary school Saint-Joseph in Toulouse , Espot Miró completed a law degree at the University of Toulouse and the University of Barcelona . After completing his studies, he was admitted to the bar. In 1979 he began working as an authorized signatory in the international department of Internacional - Banca Mora, before taking on responsibility for the administration and management of the family company in 1984 .

He began his political career in 1989 when he was elected to the General Council ( Consell General de les Valls ), to which he was a member until 1992. Espot Miró was Minister for Tourism and Sport in the second cabinet of Òscar Ribas Reig between 1992 and 1993 . Later he was ambassador to France from 1994 to 1995 , then to Spain from 2007 to 2008 and to Monaco .

Most recently, from 2008 to 2009, he was permanent representative of Andorra to the United Nations and the international organizations in Geneva, as well as ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein . At this time beyond was also an observer with the rank of Ambassador to the World Trade Organization , and the temporary charge d'affaires (charge d'affaires) in France.

On June 8, 2009 he was appointed by the new head of government (Cap de Govern), Jaume Bartumeu Cassany , as the new Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Relations. In 2011 he was replaced by Gilbert Saboya Sunyé .
