The Semnyi Monastery or Semnyi Gön or Semnyi Gompa ( Tib . : sems nyid dgon pa or sems nyid dgon ) etc. is an important monastery of the Gelug School of Tibetan Buddhism in the region of Huare or Pari ( dpa'ri ) im Datong He river valley in northern Amdo , north of Xining. The highest lama of the Semnyi monastery, the respective Achung Rinpoche , was the spiritual and secular head of this region.

The monastery was founded in 1623 , in that year the 3rd Achung Rinpoche Künga Gyatsho asked the monk Lhari Khenchen Tsheten Döndrub ( lha ri mkhan chen tshe brtan don grub ) from the Drag Yerpa monastery near Lhasa to build the temple.

Previously, in 1584, the 3rd Dalai Lama had visited the holy place and suggested building a monastery for the people. The monastery is located in the municipality of Xianmi Autonomous Okrug Menyuan Hui of Hui Chinese province of Qinghai .

It was used by the Manchu army during the Qing Dynasty in 1724 during the Khoshuud (Qoshoten) uprising of the Kokonor area under the Mongol prince Lobsang Tendzin (Tib .: blo bzang bstan 'dzin ), a grandson of Gushri Khan , destroyed.

In the following year, 1725, it was rebuilt by five Tibetan tribes from the area. Before 1958 there were over 160 monks, today 35.

The monastery has been on the list of monuments of Qinghai Province since 1998 .
