Yakubu Alfa (born December 31, 1990 in Minna ) is a Nigerian football player on the position of midfielder and striker . He currently plays for Germinal Beerschot in the Jupiler Pro League , the top division in Belgian football.

Career

Youth and club career

Alfa began his active football career in 1995 in the Niger Tornadoes youth division . After several years in the youth of the club, he started working regularly in 2007 for the professional team that played in the Nigerian Premier League , the country's highest football league. Alfa was there in 30 league games from 2007 to 2008 and scored eight goals for his team.

At the beginning of 2009 Alfa signed a professional contract with the traditional Swedish club Helsingborgs IF , with whose professional team he reached eighth place in the middle of the table after the 2009 season. He made his league debut for the club from Helsingborg in the south of Sweden on July 26, 2009, when he was substituted on for midfielder Erik Sundin in the 83rd minute of a 2-0 home win over Gefle IF . In the following round he came on another brief assignment.

Alfa left Sweden after only one season and two league appearances with almost 40 minutes of play time. The Belgian first division team Germinal Beerschot became the Nigerian's new club.

International

Alfa has already gained experience with the Nigerian U-17 national team and U-20 team . For the U-17 team in his home country, he completed 18 international matches and scored twelve goals. He also represented the team during the 2007 U-17 World Cup in South Korea . He was in six games and scored two goals. At the end of the competition, the team became U-17 world champions after defeating the U-17 national team from Spain in the final on penalties.

Among other things, Alfa has been an integral part of the Nigerian U-20 national team since 2008, for which he has scored three goals in eight games and even took part in the 2009 U-20 World Cup in Egypt . There he came in the first group game for a 55-minute mission before he was replaced by Ibok Edet . At the end of the group stage, Nigeria finished third and qualified as one of the top four third-placed teams for the round of 16 of the competition . There the team was eliminated after a 2-3 defeat against the German U-20 men .
