Yamal Airlines ( Russian ОАО "Авиационная транспортная компания" Ямал " , OAO Awiazionnaja transportnaja kompanija Jamal) is an airline based in Salekhard in northern Siberia , Russia . It is the largest regional airline in the country.
history
The airline, founded in 1997, offers regional flights to various Russian cities as well as international flights. The name refers to the Yamal Peninsula (also called the Samoyed Peninsula) in northwest Siberia (Russia, Asia). The peninsula belongs to the Yamal-Nenets autonomous district , in which the airline is based. The company flies to around 40 destinations with a fleet of around 55 aircraft. The Gothenburg / Landvetter airport was the first Western European destination and is operated with three direct flights to Moscow since the spring of 2012 found. At times (2011/2012) it also flew to Karlsruhe / Baden-Baden Airport , but then withdrew. The route was then operated by Air Berlin , but the latter has now suspended all flights to Russia itself. Yamal targets Russian passengers and operates a Russian-language website. The general manager of the company is Vasili Krjuk.
Commercial operation of the Sukhoi Superjet began on April 30, 2016, and three aircraft had been delivered by May.

On May 6, 2019 it was announced that Yamal Airlines had canceled the order for 10 Sukhoi Superjet 100 . Yamal managing director Vasily Kryuk told the Russian news agency TASS that the superjets' operational costs were too high. Due to errors and inadequate support, Yamal only managed to keep a good half of the existing superjets operational.
