The company was founded in 1920 as a division for scale production ( 製衡 部 seikō-bu ) of the company of Kawanishi Kikai KK . The actual company was then finally outsourced in 1945 under the name Yamato Seikō KK and has been independent since then. In 1954 the strain gauge load cells and the first electronic crane scale were produced for the first time . 1979 was multihead weigher with load cell Dataweigh ADW-110 developed. In 1980 the process was refined with Datacell, which was approved by the Physikalisch-Technische-Bundesanstalt (PTB) in Braunschweig . In 1981 patents for double shift and storage container technology followed.

In 1985, under the name Kumyong Yamato Scale Co. Ltd. the first foreign headquarters established in Seoul , Korea . In 1986, Yamato Scale GmbH in Düsseldorf , Germany followed . The two multihead weigher series RA and RB were launched in 1986 and 1988.

From then on, numerous companies were founded in different countries. Shanghai Yamato Scale Co. Ltd. was founded in 1990. in Shanghai , China and in 1992 also in China the Beijing Schouchang Yamato Electric Scale Co. Ltd. in Beijing . In 1993, 1998 and 2013 branches were opened in the United States (1993 Yamato Scale Corporation USA in Mequon , Illinois , 1998 Yamato Corporation Dataweigh Division and in 2013 the West Coast Office of Yamato Corporation USA in Lake Forest , California).

Yamato has been represented by Ultramatic in Switzerland since 1993. In 1994, Yamato Scale Dataweigh UK Ltd. in Leeds , Great Britain and in 2000 Yamato Scale France in Paris. In 1996, Yamato received a patent for a digital attenuation filter system.

Yamato Scale Russia was founded in Moscow in 2006 and Yamato Scale India in New Delhi in 2008 . In 2010, Yamato Scale Benelux opened in Goirle , the Netherlands. At the same time, the German GmbH was certified according to the quality management standard.

In 2014 the company opened to Mexico and Thailand. In 2016 a branch for northern Germany opened in Hamburg and Yamato Scale Italy in Parma .
