Career

1998–1999: beginnings

Yamboo was founded in 1999. Silvie, the German daughter of a Yugoslavian and a Romanian , was a legal assistant , had ballet lessons and worked as a background singer and dancer , e.g. B. for Oli.P and Gisele, a Belgian woman of African descent who had worked as a model , dancer and background singer, was initially one of the faces of the act .

1999-2006: Okama de Mapouka

The first single Fiesta de la noche became a hit and entered the Top 20 in Germany , the Top 30 in Austria and the Top 50 in Switzerland . By 2001, the singles Come with Me (Bailamos) , Torero (Aya baila) , Kalinka and Pata, Pata could also reach middle chart positions. Kalinka , which was presented in Berlin in 2001 , was Yamboo’s last single as a trio before the project initially appeared as a duo . After Star went unnoticed in 2002, there was a three-year hiatus.

In 2005 there were more Yamboo releases. Sing Hallelujah , a cover version , was the collaboration with the original artist Dr. Alban , Mapouka was supported by The Real Mapouka Dancers. There was a special campaign for this song called Chakalaka with a ketchup maker. In 2006 followed, together with the single Oh Suzanna , the debut album Okama de Mapouka with all nine singles so far. Another pause followed.

2009: comeback

In 2009 the project got two new faces when Michelle and Medi replaced the two previous singers on the stage, while Sylvie Prvu and Gisele stayed in the background. They released the single Discothèque . There have been no more publications since 2009. The project is considered finished.
