The Yarlung River , Tibet. ཡར་ ལྷ་ ཤམ་ པོ་ ཆུ་ yar lha sham po chu (in Chinese script: 雅拉 雄 布 曲 , Yala Xiongbu Qu ) or Yalong He ( Chinese  雅砻河 , Pinyin Yǎlóng Hé , English Yarlung River ) or Yalong Jiang ( 雅隆 江 Yǎlóng Jiāng ) in Lhokha , Tibet Autonomous Region , People's Republic of China , is a southern tributary of the Yarlung Tsangpo ( Yalu Zangbo River , Tsangpo- Brahmaputra ).

The Yarlung River has its source on the slopes of the holy mountain Yarlha Shampo and flows in a south-north direction through the Nedong Dzong district , where it flows into the Tsangpo (Brahmaputra) near the city of Tsethang . Its valley is considered the cradle of Tibetan civilization, which is why the catchment area of the tributary Zanbaxiong Qu (in Chonggye County ) is also included in this valley .

The old Tibetan imperial dynasty, which began here in the middle of the first millennium, is accordingly often referred to as the Yarlung dynasty .
