Yasamal one of the eleven administrative districts is ( rayonlar ; sg. Rayon ) of Baku , capital Azerbaijan . Since September 2011, the administrative center of Baku has been located in this district. The mayor of the county is Zakir Jafarov.
history
The district was founded in 1936 under the name Oktyabrs and received its current name in 1990. The district has always been characterized by relatively high crime statistics, and most of the unrest in Baku began here.
Historically, the area was divided into Yasamal and Yeni Yasamal (New Yasamal). Numerous high-rise buildings have been built in Yeni Yasamal in recent years.
population
According to the 1989 census, 220,300 people lived in the Yasamal district. According to statistics from January 2010 , the population was 233,600 and at the beginning of 2019 it was 247,600.
economy
The district is a leader in residential construction. About 40% of the new buildings under construction in Baku are located in this district.
Culture
The State University and the Tezepir Mosque are located in the district . In addition, numerous cultural institutions have established themselves such as three museums, eight libraries, four music schools, two cultural centers and a children's philharmonic hall. There are also 28 secondary schools and four specialized secondary schools. The former park named after Gazanfar Musabekov has been completely redesigned.
Sports
The district has a variety of sports facilities and arenas. There are two professional stadiums, several chess clubs, a sports and exhibition complex, and boxing and training halls.
