She is the daughter of Yitzhak Levy , who was born in Manisa near Izmir , and her mother Kohava Levy (* 1946), a well-known singer of Sephardic songs. Her father was a Chasan and researcher of the music of the Sephardim .

Act

Instruments such as the Spanish guitar are used in their songs, as are Arabic instruments such as the oud , violin , cello , percussion and the piano . With her debut album Romance & Yasmin (Ladino) from 2000, she was nominated for the BBC World Music Awards 2005 as best newcomer. Her album La Judería was also released in 2005. Mano Suave was released in 2008. After several stylistic excursions into the world of flamenco , this album now marks the return of the artist to her Ladino roots.

Quote

“Of course we have the most radical religious people here that you can imagine. But I also see another reality in Jerusalem: people of different religions and cultures living together. In my world there is no place for war and struggle. I really wish we could show more respect for one another in this city of different worldviews. The Ladino songs are a good medium for this, because they were written at a time when the Jews lived in peace with Muslims in Spain. We have to remember that there has been a very long period of mutual respect. And there is no reason why we shouldn't do the same today. "
