yelworC is a German Dark Electro project. It was formed at the turn of the year between December 1987 and January 1988 in Munich , at that time still under the name livE of yelworC .

Founding members were Peter Schiffmann (alias Peter Levine, later Peter Devin) and Oliver Büttner (alias Dominik van Reich). In 1989 the band name was shortened to "yelworC". If you turn the band name around, you get the surname of the British magician and occultist Aleister Crowley .

background

yelworC released seven demo cassettes since 1988, of which the last three tapes AIWASS , $ atanat and Tanata $ specifically represented the sound for which the project later became known.

In 1992 a first official album was released under the title Brainstorming , which was received differently by critics and met with divided opinions, especially in the black scene and the EBM movement at the time . If this work by the Gothic and Wave community was too hard and electronic, the EBM fans particularly criticized the gloom of the compositions. Only a short time later and with the establishment of the track Sacred City as a club hit, the album turned out to be a public success and groundbreaking for the dark electro environment. After the release of the EP Blood In Face , which contains the track Soulhunter as another club hit, Oliver Büttner separated from yelworC and founded the amGod project , with which he also made some new versions of renowned yelworC songs (including from Data Control ).

Peter Devin continued to run corporation as a one-man project. Announced several times in the 1990s, the third work Trinity was not released until 2004 , for which Dennis Ostermann ( In Strict Confidence ), among others , could be won as guest singer and producer.

Trinity is the first part of a trilogy that revolves around the Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri , the titles of the other parts are Eclosion and Icolation .

influence

yelworC influenced a large number of artists from the electrical field , such as Hocico , Tri-State , Hioctan or Aslan Faction , and gained worldwide popularity in the 1990s. Earlier albums and especially the demo releases are now sought-after rarities.
