Yerba Buena is the capital of the Yerba Buena department of the same name in the province of Tucumán in northwest Argentina . It lies west of the provincial capital San Miguel de Tucumán and together with it forms the metropolitan area of Gran San Miguel de Tucumán .

According to the 2001 census ( INDEC ), Yerba Buena has 50,783 inhabitants. The city is essentially a middle class and upper class residential area. Villas, closed quarters and private club settlements (so-called countries) predominate. However, there are also districts with a slum character .
history
In the period before the Spanish conquest, Yerba Buena was inhabited by the Lules and Tafí peoples . With the colonization came the Jesuits, who founded Reducciones , which in turn gave rise to estancias that laid the foundation for agricultural development.
economy
Yerba Buena is home to the studios of the Canal 10 television channel . In keeping with the prevailing strata of the population, a lively business life with upscale consumer goods and varied gastronomy has developed along Avenida Aconquija.
Education
The Escuela de Agricultura y Sacarotecnia of the Universidad Nacional de Tucumán (UNT) is based in Yerba Buena . In the northern part of the city, another campus of the Universidad del Norte Tomás de Aquino , a private university with its headquarters in San Miguel, is currently under construction de Tucumán.

Worth seeing
- Cerro San Javier . Via Avenida Aconquija, 25 kilometers before the city, you reach the summit de Cerro San Javier, on which the sculpture of Cristo Redentor by the sculptor Juan Carlos Iramain stands.
Selva de Yungas
Until 1900, Yerba Buena was a dense jungle of Tipa and Pacará trees, as can be admired in Percy Hill Park. This type of forest is part of the structure of the Yunga vegetation, which is composed of the following species (in Spanish terms): Arrayán, Cedro, Guarán, Horco, Molle, Lapacho, Laurel, Mato, Nogal, Pacará, Tarco and Tipa.
