Ylli Bufi

Ylli Sokrat Bufi (born May 25, 1948 in Tirana ) is an Albanian politician ( PS ).

Life

After attending school, he studied chemical engineering at the Natural Science Faculty of the University of Tirana , graduating in 1972 with a doctorate in natural sciences . He then worked as a chemical engineer in oil production and then from 1976 to 1982 for a food company in Fier . Bufi then worked on the Science and Technology Committee between 1982 and 1983.

Between 1983 and 1990 he was Vice Minister for Light and Food Industry in the government of Prime Minister Adil Çarçani , who then appointed him Minister for Food Industry. He also held this office in the subsequent government of Prime Minister Fatos Nano from February 1991.

After Nano's resignation, Bufi, who is a member of the Socialist Party of Albania (PS), succeeded him as Prime Minister of Albania on June 5, 1991 . In August 1991 he accepted Italian aid for Albania, whereupon Operation Pelican was launched. After a six-month term, he handed over the office of Prime Minister on December 10, 1991 to Vilson Ahmeti .

From 1992 and 1996 he was chairman of the Committee on Industry, Trade and Transport of the Albanian Parliament (Kuvendi i Shqipërisë) . Between March and July 1997 he worked as an advisor to Prime Minister Bashkim Fino before he was Minister for Public Economy and Privatization in the governments of Fatos Nano and Pandeli Majko from July 1997 to October 1999 .

Later he was chairman of the parliamentary committee on economy, finance and privatization from 2001 to 2005 and at the same time from 2002 to 2005 a member of the committee for the review and implementation of the recommendations of the OSCE .

Since September 2005 Bufi has been deputy chairman of the PS and chairman of the parliamentary committee for production, trade and the environment.
