Yochk'o Seffer
Yochk'o Seffer (born July 10, 1939 in Miskolc , Hungary as Seffer József ) is a French jazz musician ( tenor saxophone , clarinet , tárogató ) and composer of Hungarian origin. Seffer is also active as a visual artist.
Life
Seffer received music lessons from the age of six. In 1956 he migrated to France for political reasons, where he attended the Conservatoire de Paris ; he was a student of Nadia Boulanger and also heard from Olivier Messiaen . In 1959 he played with Mal Waldron in the La Bohème jazz club . From 1963 to 1968 he was a member of Eddy Mitchell's rock 'n' roll band and then played with Didier Levallet , Siegfried Kessler and Jean-My Truong in the group Perception Free Jazz . In 1971 he moved to the fusion camp and became a member of the Magma group . With Faton Cahen he founded the Zeuhl band Zao at the end of 1972 , to which he belonged for four albums until 1976. For the next four years he directed the improvisation ensemble Neffesh-Music , which also belonged to the Ensemble Intercontemporain . After he then formed a big band and played duos with Faton Cahen, Kathy Lajos Horvath and Siegfried Kessler, he worked in the mid-1980s with JF Jenny-Clark , Kessler, Michel Godard and Peter Gritz in the formation of Chromophonie and in a saxophone septet, but also with Barre Phillips , Barry Altschul and François Méchali .
In the next few years he recorded some tribute albums, including with Ornette Coleman, and pursued previous projects. He is the father of the violinist Debora Seffer .
