Yucca arkansana subsp. louisianensis (English common names "Grass Yucca", "Louisiana Yucca") is a subspecies of the plant species Yucca arkansana in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae).

description

Yucca arkansana subsp. louisianensis grows solitary or forms small groups. The variable, blue-green, soft leaves are 20 to 40 cm long and 1 to 2 cm wide. It forms twisted fibers on the leaf margins.

The branched inflorescence that begins above the leaves is 1 to 2.5 meters high. The pendulous, bell-shaped, spherical, white to cream-colored flowers have a length and a diameter of 3 cm. The species has a significantly longer inflorescence than the subspecies arkansana . The flowering period is from May to June.

Yucca arkansana subsp. louisianensis is frost hardy to minus 20 ° C in Central Europe . Ten-year-old specimens are in F. Hochstätter's collection unprotected in the open air.

distribution

Yucca arkansana subsp. louisianensis is common in plains, sparse woodlands, and grasslands in the US states of Louisiana , Arkansas, and Texas .
