Yucca jaliscensis is a species of palm lily ( Yucca ) in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae).
description
The solitary Yucca jaliscensis (Engl. Izote Yucca) is stem-forming and reaches a height of four to eight meters. The trunk has a diameter of up to 1.5 meters. The variable, typically blue-colored leaves form fine fibers at the leaf edges. The branched, upright or to the side inclined inflorescence is 0.4 to 0.8 meters long. The spherical white flowers are 2–3.5 cm long and 1–1.5 cm wide.
Yucca jaliscensis of the section Yucca , Treculianae series is rare and is geographically isolated from other representatives. She is close to Yucca schottii and Yucca grandiflora . It is little known and rare in culture. When dry, frost hardy to –15 ° C. Ancient specimens can be admired in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
distribution
Yucca jaliscensis grows in Mexico near the Pacific coast in the states of Jalisco , Colima and Guanajuato on plains and low hills at 1200–1700 m altitude. Associated with Agave colimana and other agave species.
Systematics
The first description by the American botanist William Trelease under the name Yucca jaliscensis was published in 1920.
