Yucca grandiflora is a species of palm lily ( Yucca ) in the asparagus family (Asparagaceae).
description
The solitary species is trunk-forming and reaches a height of 2 to 6 meters. The stiff, upright leaves form fibers on the leaf edges.
The upright, branched inflorescence that begins between the leaves becomes 0.5 to 1 meter high. The large, sessile flowers are characteristic.
Yucca grandiflora is related to Yucca schottii . The limited occurrence overlaps with that of the Socco Yucca ( Yucca madrensis ).
Yucca grandiflora is little known and rare in culture. When dry, frost hardy to minus 15 ° C. Ancient specimens can be admired in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
distribution
Yucca grandiflora grows in the Sonoran Desert of the Sierra Madre Occidental in Mexico on flat, stony hills at altitudes between 600 and 1200 meters. This species is often associated with Agave shrevei and other agave species.
