Mass strike 2014

In mid-April 2014, tens of thousands of workers at the factory in Dongguang went on strike to demand several (actually already legally prescribed) social benefits. As a result, some activists who campaigned for workers' rights were arrested by state security organs and a police case was opened for causing disturbance. As a result of the strike, Adidas withdrew some orders from the company and awarded them to other suppliers in order to limit the impact on its own business. Even Nike threatened with relocation of production to other manufacturers. After the authorities obliged Yue Yuen Industrial to make back payments and some of the workers' demands were met, the strike ended in late April after about two weeks.
