Yukio Sakamoto

Yukio Sakamoto (* 1947 ; Japanese 坂 本 幸雄 ) is a Japanese manager.

Sakamoto graduated from Nippon Sport Science University in 1970 as a sports scientist. He then joined Texas Instruments in Japan. In 1993 he was appointed Executive Vice President. From 1997 he worked for the Japan Foundry of Kobe Steel , which is now part of UMC .

In 2002 he became chairman of the board of directors of Elpida Memory , the DRAM business of NEC and Hitachi . In 2005 he led the company to the stock exchange. Due to the financial crisis in 2008 and floods in Thailand, which also affected the Elpida plant there, the company accumulated large losses. The company filed for bankruptcy in 2012 and is now part of Micron .

In 2017, he was hired by China's Sino King Technology to recruit engineers for a new DRAM plant in Hefei . According to the EE Times , he gained a total of 180 engineers. However, he came into conflict with the Chinese financiers because he demanded a wage of 100,000,000 yen (€ 790,701) per year for his engineers.
