Yuri Goloubev ( Juri Golubew , Russian Ю́рий Голубев , born July 27, 1972 in Moscow ) is a Russian musician ( double bass , composition ) who works in Western Europe and works in the field of classical music as well as modern jazz .

Live and act

Yuri Goloubev initially had lessons at the Moscow Central Music School and at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where he completed his master's degree in 1995. Soon after, he was the 1990 winner of the All-Soviet Union Student Competition; he then became principal bassist with the Chamber Orchestra Ensemble XXI (1990–91). He then worked at the Bolshoi Theater , from 1992 to 2004 as principal bassist with the Chamber Orchestra of Moscow Soloists under the direction of Yuri Bashmet . As a classical double bass player he also worked with Mario Brunello , Sarah Chang , James Galway , Gidon Kremer , Shlomo Mintz , Sviatoslav Richter , Mstislav Rostropovich , Thomas Quasthoff , Uto Ughi and Maxim Vengerov ; He has also appeared in well-known venues such as Carnegie Hall (New York), Suntory Hall (Tokyo), Barbican Center (London), the Berlin Philharmonic and the Sydney Opera House. He has also written pieces for jazz and chamber music ensembles, transcriptions for bass and arrangements . In 2002 he was the youngest bass player to date to receive the Honored Artist of Russia award .

Since the late 1990s, Goloubev worked increasingly in the field of jazz and appeared in clubs and festivals as a jazz bassist. In 1999 recordings were made with Igor Bril . In 2004 he moved to Milan; from 2007 he taught at the jazz faculty of the Centro Professione Musica , since 2010 he has been a professor at the Trento State Conservatory. Since 2015 he has been teaching jazz double bass and harmony at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. He worked from the 2000s a. a. with Klaus Gesing , Guido Manusardi ( Tandem , 2006), Claudio Fasoli , Gwilym Simcock , Tim Garland , John Law , Fabienne Ambühl , Maciek Pysz , Markelian Kapedani , Michele Di Toro , Roberto Olzer and Sonia Spinello , also in the formations Brass Joy, Ens, Europe Connection, Final Step and the Just Music Trio . In 2011 he recorded the album Titanic for a Bike , on which Julian Argüelles , Claudio Filippini and Asaf Sirkis participated. In the field of jazz he was involved in 38 recording sessions between 1999 and 2017, most recently with Tim Garland.
