Yusuf V.

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Yusuf V († 1463 ) was Emir of Granada (1445-1446 and 1462).

Life

Yusuf V came to power as the grandson of Muhammad V with the help of the Moors of the Abencerrajes in Granada , after this Muhammad IX. withdrew their support. However, the understanding between Yusuf V and the Abencerrajes soon broke again when he allied himself with Castile and the clans had to fear that their power would be restricted. As early as 1446, Yusuf V was overthrown and replaced by Muhammad X (1446–1447), who relied primarily on the Banigash clan.

Around 1462 Yusuf V was raised again by the Abencerrajes to the rank of emir against Said . Although he succeeded in occupying Malaga and entering Granada, he was unable to assert himself against Said and had to flee.
