Yve-Alain Bois

Yve-Alain Bois (born April 16, 1952 in Constantine , Département de Constantine ) is a French-Algerian art historian, art critic and professor at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton .

Life

Bois received a Master of Arts in 1973 from the École pratique des hautes études in Paris for work on El Lissitzky's typography and a PhD in Philosophy in 1977 from the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales for work on Lissitzky's and Malevich's ideas of space.

Bois was one of the co-founders and co-directors of Macula Magazine from 1976 to 1979 and 1976 of the Macula book series . He is co-editor of Artforum , an international art magazine.

Bois was Professor of Modern Art and Chair of the Department of Art History and Architecture at Harvard University . He has lectured at Johns Hopkins University and at the Center national de la recherche scientifique . Bois is a professor at the School of Theoretical Research and Intellectual Inquiries, Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton , New Jersey . In 2005 he was elected a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences , and in 2016 a member of the American Philosophical Society .
