Yves Albert Bizeul (born February 23, 1956 in Paris ; † August 8, 2019 in Rostock ) was a French political scientist and Protestant theologian. From 1995 until his death he was professor for political theory and the history of ideas at the University of Rostock .

Scientific career

Yves Bizeul graduated from the Lycée Fabert in Metz . He then studied political science and law in Nancy at the Center Universitaire d'Études Politiques de Nancy from 1977 to 1980 . In 1980 he obtained his License en Droit from the Université de Droit, d'Économie et de Sciences sociales de Paris, Paris 2 Assas , and in 1981 from the Institut d'études politiques de Paris , section Service Public, the Diplôme. Bizeul then completed a degree in Protestant theology in Paris and Strasbourg , which he completed in 1985 at the Université Strasbourg II with the Maîtrise and in 1987, also at the Université Strasbourg II, with the Diplôme d'Études approfondies. From 1985 to 1986 he studied Protestant theology at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . In 1988 Yves Bizeul became Identité (s) de la minorité protestante en France. Étude épistémologique de la recherche sociologique sur le protestantisme actuel is doing her doctorate . From 1988 to 1990 he was a research fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at the Arnold Bergstraesser Institute in Freiburg im Breisgau; his scientific host there was Theodor Hanf . In 1993 he completed his habilitation with the work Communities with Characteristics? The identity of the German and French communities and their socialization practices . From 1990 to 1995 Bizeul was a research assistant at the German Institute for International Educational Research , Sociology Department, in Frankfurt am Main . In the 1995 summer semester, Yves Bizeul held the chair for political theory and the history of ideas at the Institute for Political and Administrative Sciences at the University of Rostock . In the winter semester of 1995 he was appointed to this chair, which he held until his death. Since 1987, Bizeul was an associate researcher at the Center de Sociologie des Religions et d 'Éthique Sociale at the Université Marc Bloch in Strasbourg .

Yves Bizeul was a Christian of the Reformed Church. He was married. He died of multiple organ failure after heart surgery.

Research priorities

Yves Bizeul's research interests included: shaping pluralism and collective individualities in ultra-modern societies, political myths and their current role for societies, political symbolism and its theory and change in values, transformation of religiosity and new forms of solidarity, and the relationship between belief and politics.

  • Founding member of the ALUMNI Association of Rostock Political Science e. V.
