Yvonne Saunders

Yvonne Saunders (married Mondesire; born October 9, 1951 ) is a former Canadian sprinter and middle-distance runner of Jamaican origin.

At the British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1970 , she was eighth in the pentathlon and with the Jamaican team fifth in the 4 x 100 meter relay .

In 1971 she won bronze at the Central America and Caribbean Championships in the 400 m and long jump . At the Pan American Games in Cali , she won more bronze medals in the 400 m and with the Jamaican team in the 4-by-400-meter relay ; in the long jump she was fifth.

At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, she reached the semifinals over 400 m and was eliminated in the 4-by-400-meter relay in the preliminary run.

From 1973 she started for Canada, where she had lived since 1968. At the British Commonwealth Games in Christchurch in 1974, she won the 400 m and won bronze in the Canadian 4 x 400 meter relay.

At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, she was eliminated over 800 m in the preliminary run and came in eighth place in the 4-by-400-meter relay .

The boycott of Canada in 1980 prevented further participation in the Olympics. At the alternatively held Liberty Bell Classic , she won the 800 m .

In 1970 and 1973 she was Canadian champion over 400 m and in 1970 in the long jump.
