history

The Zurich Bach Choir was founded in 1947. At that time, the “top priority was the careful development and performance of choral works by Joh. Seb. Bachs »defined. The choir directors at that time followed this principle until 1963 and - with a few exceptions - only featured Bach works on the concert programs. From 1963 the repertoire was expanded up to works of the 20th century. The performances of Stravinski's Mass for Choir and Double Wind Quintet (1972), Paul Hindemith's Lilac Requiem (1977 and 2003), Krzysztof Penderecki's Te Deum (1986), Leoš Janáček's Glagolitic Mass (1988), Frederick Delius ' Late Swallows (1997) testify to this. , Lili Boulanger's Psalm 130 Du fond de l'abime (1997) or Benjamin Britten's War Requiem (2002).

In the past, the Zurich Bach Choir went on concert tours several times: with Bach's B minor Mass to Paris , Autun , Bologna , Budapest , Basel , Liestal and in 1988 to the Schaffhausen Bach Festival ; with Beethoven's Missa solemnis to Solothurn ; with mixed programs to Rheinau , Schwyz , Zug or Fischingen ; with Mozart's Requiem to Interlaken and 2005 to Serbia and 2007 for a benefit trip to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
