Zacharias Scheffter

Zacharias Scheffter (also Schefter ; * 1568 in Schwaan ; † March 5, 1626 in Hamburg ) was a German classical philologist , educator and headmaster .

Life

Scheffter was the son of the pastor of the same name from Schwaan. It is unknown where he did his studies. He is said to have studied philosophy and philology . It is known, however, that he obtained his master's degree as part of his studies . In 1602 he first appeared in Coburg as vice-principal . He later became a professor at the Coburg grammar school, which was newly founded in 1605 . Either in 1613, the year he turned down an appointment as rector in Hamburg, or in 1616 he became rector of the grammar school.

In 1620, Scheffter was again appointed to the rector's office of the Hamburg Academic Gymnasium . In addition, he received the rectorate of the affiliated scholarly school Johanneum . He also received the professorship for logic and metaphysics. He also temporarily represented the chair for theology and the chair for mathematics , physics and chemistry . He died in office.
