Zaharia Tănase

Zaharia Tănase (born March 20, 1891 in Iași , † March 17, 1967 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian politician of the Romanian Workers' Party PMR (Partidul Muncitoresc Român) and from 1965 PCR (Partidul Comunist Român) .

Life

Tănase attended the School of Arts and Crafts and then worked as a worker in the boiler factory of the state railway company CFR ( Căile Ferate Române ) in his native Iași. In 1909 he joined the labor movement and in 1910 became a member of the social democratic party PSDR (Partidului Social-Democrat Român) . He was an active member of the trade unions and was one of the organizers and leaders of the strikes in Iasi during the general strike in October 1920. Because of these activities, he was arrested in October 1920. After the royal coup d'état of August 23, 1944 , he assumed leading positions in central organs of the trade unions. On April 11, 1946, he became Undersecretary of State for State Industry in the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. From 1946 to 1948 he was a member of the Chamber of Deputies (Camera Deputaților) and represented the constituency of Sibiu .

In 1948 Tănase became a member of the Grand National Assembly (Marea Adunare Națională) and also represented the constituency of Sibiu until 1953 . He became a member of the Central Committee of the PMR at the Sixth Party Congress of the PMR (February 21-23, 1948) and was a member of it until December 28, 1955. At the same time he became a candidate for the Politburo of the Central Committee on February 24, 1948, of which he was a member until May 27, 1952. Between April 13, 1948 and 1953 he was a member of the Presidium of the Grand National Assembly. At the Seventh Party Congress of the PMR (December 23 to 28, 1955) he became a member of the Central Revision Commission (ZRK) and was a member of this body until July 23, 1965.

Tănase was honored several times for his services and received, among other things, the Star of the People's Republic of Romania, Second Class (Ordinul Steaua Republicii Populare Române) in 1948 and the Order of Labor Second Class (Ordinul Muncii) in 1961 .
