marketing

The release of the album was, for example, in contrast to The Butterfly Effect , in which the rapper had also made television appearances, not accompanied by extensive marketing. The result was a video entitled Probs , which was produced by first-class guerrillas and implemented by Chebacka. Probs received 50,000 hits on the YouTube website within the first two days . Murderbass had the video blocked on YouTube anyway, so that, according to Hengzt, more people could watch Probs on the label's website. Another video was shot for the piece Show yourself all . This was created under the direction of the photographer Murat Aslan and was also produced by first-class guerrillas.

reception

Charts

The album entered the German album charts at number 33. Hengzt rated this as a success, as in the run-up to the publication advertising was only made on the Internet and he himself only gave a few interviews.

indexing

The Federal Inspectorate for Media Harmful to Young People indicated payday in October 2009. The album found its way into Part A of the list of media harmful to young people, so that since October 30, 2009 it can no longer be advertised and sold to young people under the age of 18. Sabine Meier, deputy chairwoman of the BpjM, justified the indexing with “drastic descriptions of violence” and the “mixing of sex and violence” in the rapper's texts. The decisive titles for the ban are props , twinkle, twinkle little star , gold chain trend III , show yourself completely , number one and fuck the world . The Groove Attack sales organization criticized the procedure of the federal inspection agency, which only informed the Murderbass label about the indexing on October 29, 2009, one day before it came into force. In the past, most of the Berliner's albums were indexed with Rap , Berliner Schnauze and The Butterfly Effect . Hengzt stated in the context of the release of Payday that he assumed that the album will be indexed because his previous albums, regardless of the style, had been banned. After the indexing was announced, Hengzt was amused in a video: “ Many thanks to the BpjM. I am officially the toughest rapper in Germany. I am grateful for the award. “Furthermore, the Berliner stated that the Federal Inspectorate did not understand that the forbidden titles could still be downloaded from the Internet by potential listeners and that indexing would bring him more awareness and success. In a new interview from 2015, Hengzt says he deliberately made the album so excessively hard that it would be indexed quickly and that his record company, under which he was unwillingly under contract at the time, hardly earned anything from the album. Accordingly, the album was indexed five months after its release and sold the worst of his albums.

criticism

Payday was criticized in a review of the Laut.de e-zine , in which it was awarded three out of a possible five rating points by the editorial team of the site. The author of the rating Karim Chughtai praised: “ Bass Sultan Hengzt can rap, has a good flow, great beats behind it, is suitable for battles, rhymes in part creative, makes funny comparisons, but could also be a shovel in most of the tracks on the album put on it. “In her opinion, there are too few titles that want to convey a content like The Block Remains on Hengzt's album. On the other hand, the song Ex-Guterjunge and the beats of the album, " which have pressure and invite you to nod your head ", are positive . The guest contributions by Amar, Sido, Godsilla, Orgi 69, Gino Cazino and JokA are also praised. Finally, Chughtai recommends Payday especially to listeners of the “ old Berlin hip-hop ”.

The publication was particularly well received by the editors of the German hip-hop magazine Juice . This refers to payday as " very good, very entertaining album " and thus combines a rating of five out of six possible "crowns." The criticism that sets Juice among others, the difficulty Hengzts with the Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons , which almost all Albums des rapper had indexed after publication, which led to a reduction in sales. Hengzt did not try to avoid indexing with Payday , but instead “ went one step further ” compared to the previous album , which in the opinion of the Juice editorial team will please the followers of the rapper. Bass Sultan Hengzt is described as " snotty, brutal, loudmouthed and wonderfully disrespectful ". The productions of the songs fit the lyrics and the lecture of the hip-hop musician and the guest contributions of befriended rappers also fit into the concept of the album. In addition, the titles NWO and Funkel, sparkle little star were praised as “ really catchy hits ”.
