Zam Johnson
Zam Johnson (* 20th century in Los Angeles , USA ) has lived in Berlin- Kreuzberg since 1987 and is a painter, composer and musician.
Live and act
In the late 1970s, Johnson worked as a musician in Los Angeles with many other artists, for example Gino Vanelli, the Beach Boys , Brian Wilson , the Ray Charles Singers, Red Bone, Iron Butterfly, Torn Petty, Ike Turner , Sweet Inspirations, Bj and the Bear, a TV show on NBC, Barry White Productions, Leon Ware, Motown producer Greg Evegon and Billy Griffin .
Throughout the late 1980s, Zam had many exhibitions of his paintings in the Los Angeles “art underground”.
Zam only came to Berlin in 1987 to compose music for an independent film, which is where he met his wife and stayed in the city. In Germany he then worked with Thommy Hein , among others . In 1994 he composed the music for Jutta Ohlenberg's film "Ju-Ni Hitoe or the discovery of the soul", which was shown at the 1994 Berlinale, with the Théâtre Danse Grotesque ( Yumiko Yoshioka , Minako Seki and Sayoko Onishi).
In 1995, together with Yumiko Yoshioka and Joachim Manger, the 'TEN PEN CHii art laboratory' was created at Schloss Bröllin . There he worked on the conception of the music for the butoh dance . Then pieces like “N. YOiN "&" DA-PPI ". He also composed for other theater projects such as Imagine I, Tatoeba, White Monkeys Dance play, Why not orchestra and dance group, Panic Theater Group, East meets west performing art group.
From 1998-2000 he toured as a drummer with the band Stoppok , where he can be heard on the CD "Auf Bühne La-La-Live '99".
A more electronically experimental jazz group is Unga-Unga, where he forms a duo with saxophonist Paul Griessbach and sometimes mixes very extravagant music and tones into a new style. His band “Taboo” with trumpeter Paul Schwingenschoegel and producer Gert Bertram performs with many guest musicians. The genre ranges from chill out to smooth jazz .
He has been working with Uli Lenz since 2005 ; In 2007 he formed the Trio 105 Lenz Kubach Johnson (with Lenz on piano and Gerhard Kubach on double bass).
music
Johnson plays drums , keyboards and percussion instruments . Among other things, he composed film music and dance music for Butoh projects. He organized live concerts in LA and Berlin with fast painter Norton Wisdom and made a name for himself as a performance artist.
His preferred and well-known style of music is jazz . He has also been working with synthesizers for a long time , which brought him into an experimental electronic music genre before the name techno even existed.

Johnson himself describes his painting style as "primitive abstractions and a visual orchestra for the eyes". He had successful exhibitions in California , Morocco and Berlin . He paints with oil and acrylic and also uses unusual fabrics.
