history

The purpose of the association is to promote cultural purposes by cultivating, promoting and spreading choral singing and maintaining musical cultural goals to strengthen the community in the population at home and abroad. For this purpose, the members make music together, their public concerts and contacts with other choirs, through which prejudices against gays and lesbians in society are broken down.

Carsten Wüster has been the musical and artistic director since April 1st, 2008.

The Magic Flutes entertain with ironic, funny, contemplative and romantic stage programs that combine singing, choreography , their own texts and presentations. The repertoire includes musical numbers and evergreens, as well as hits and pop in polyphonic arrangements, a cappella or with piano accompaniment.

They regularly appear with their own programs in Cologne, to guest performances and festival participation throughout Germany and in other European countries. Important stations outside Cologne were Trier ( cloth factory , 1995), Bonn ( bread factory , 1998), Arnhem ( Musis Sacrum , 1999), Berlin ( Kongresshalle , 2001), Hamburg ( Markthalle and Ohnsorg-Theater , regularly since 2003), Zurich ( Tonhalle , 2003), Frankfurt (Bürgerhaus Bornheim, 2003 and 2012), Paris (Théâtre Le Trianon, 2005), London ( Royal Festival Hall , 2009), Bern ( Theater am Käfigturm , 2011), Dublin (The Helix, 2014), Munich ( Gasteig , 2018).

You were the guest choir in the piece Das Werk / Im Bus / Ein Sturz by Elfriede Jelinek in the production by Karin Beier at the Schauspiel Köln , which was named “Production of the Year” by the magazine Theater heute . In addition to over 35 performances in the Cologne Schauspielhaus, the production was invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen and a guest performance at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg.

In April 2015, a jury of experts chose the Magic Flutes as one of ten finalists from among 317 applicant choirs in the WDR choir competition "Singen macht Glück".
