Zbigniew Girzyński (born March 17, 1973 in Sierpc ) is a Polish historian , politician and since 2005 a member of the Sejm in the V, VI and VII . Electoral term.

In 1992 he passed the Abitur at the spiritual seminary of the diocese in Płock . From 1992 to 1997 he studied history and from 1997 to 2001 he did his doctorate at the Mikołaj Kopernik University in Toruń .

Scientific activity

In 2001 he defended his doctoral thesis on the subject of the Polish- French relationship from 1945 to 1950 and began his work as a lecturer at the Institute for History and Archives of the Mikołaj Kopernik University and at the University of Social and Economic Sciences in Włocławek . He is the author of several articles and three monographs on historical subjects. In 2002 he was awarded a scholarship from the Polonia Aid Foundation Trust . He deals with the history of the 20th century with a focus on Polish foreign policy, Polonia abroad and politically motivated emigration after 1945. He is a member of the Polish Society for Historical Sciences and the Włocław Scientific Society.

Social and journalistic activity

During elementary school and high school he was an altar boy and was involved in the "Movement of Light" ( Ruch Światło-Życie ) and the "Crusade for the Liberation of Man" ( Krucjata Wyzwolenia Człowieka ). During his studies he was involved in academic pastoral care, first for the Redemptorists , then for the Jesuits .

He also worked as a journalist, from 1993 to 1995 as an employee of the national conservative Catholic broadcaster Radio Maryja . From 2000 to 2002 he was the deputy editor-in-chief and then editor-in-chief and columnist of the Toruń monthly “PULS”. He is a member of the Association of Polish Journalists.

Political activity

He belonged to the group in the 90s the Niezależne Zrzeszenie Studentów (Independent Students' Union - NZS) has re-established at the Nicolaus Copernicus University, in 1996 and 1997 he was Deputy Chairman of the Higher Education Commission of the NZS at this university.

From 1996 to 2001 he was a member of the Ruch Odbudowy Polski (Movement for the Reconstruction of Poland - ROP). Among other things, he was press spokesman for the youth association of the ROP and a member of the board of the ROP. In 2001 he joined Prawo i Sprawiedliwość (Law and Justice - PiS). From 2002 to 2003 he was Chairman of the PiS in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship and in 2003 and 2004 he was Deputy Chairman of the PiS in this voivodeship. Since 2002 he has been a member of the Political Council of the PiS.

In the 2005 parliamentary elections , he was elected to the Sejm from the list of PiS for the constituency of Toruń. In the fifth electoral term he was secretary of the PiS parliamentary group and deputy chairman of the Commission for Education, Science and Youth, as well as a member of the Commission for Foreign Affairs and the Polish delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe . From March 10, 2006 to January 12, 2007 he was a member of the Extraordinary Commission on the legislative initiative regarding the Instytut Pamięci Narodowej (Institute for National Remembrance - IPN).

In the 2007 parliamentary elections , he was re-elected to the Sejm with 22,159 votes. He is a member of the Sejm Commission for Foreign Affairs.
