Zeenat Aman (2011)

Zeenat Aman ( Urdu زینت اَمن; Hindi ज़ीनत अमान Zīnat Amān ; Born November 19, 1951 ) is an Indian model and film actress .

Life

Zeenat Aman started her career as an advertising model. She came second in the Miss India contest and won Miss Asia Quest in 1970 . The following year she made her film debut in Hulchul and her first major role in Dev Anand's Haré Rama Haré Krishna , where she played the emancipated hippie woman Janice. The film won her a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress and defined her image as a western, free woman. She worked with Anand several times in the 1970s.

In her role in Yaadon Ki Baraat (1973) she embodied modernity by breaking moral codes that were fixed in earlier love stories in film melodramas as "controlled female sexuality". The film also introduced western disco music to Hindi film with the “Americanized” role of Zeenat Aman . This new image of women was also adapted by other actresses, but received a negative connotation and a. by Parveen Babi representation of a Gangsterbraut in Deewar (1975). In 1978, Raj Kapoor used Aman's image and sex appeal in his film Satyam Shivam Sundaram , which stigmatizes the corruption of religious symbols in contemporary life.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Zeenat Aman appeared at the side of the main heroes in the commercially very successful films Dharam Veer (1977), Don (1978), Abdullah (1980), Insaaf Ka Tarazu (1980), Qurbani (1980) and Lawaris (1981). She also had a leading role in the Soviet-Indian coproduction Ali Baba and the 40 Robbers (1980).

In 1989 her film work ended. Since 1999, after the death of her husband, Zeenat Aman has appeared again sporadically in films.
