Zehut ( Hebrew : זֶהוּת, Sehut ; German : identity) is a nationalist and libertarian political party in Tel Aviv-Jaffa . It was founded in 2015 by Moshe Feiglin , a former Likud politician.

history

The party's roots lie in the Manhigut Jehudit movement within the Likud, which was founded by Moshe Feiglin and Shmuel Sackett with the aim of strengthening the Jewish character of the State of Israel.

Feiglin tried several times to be elected chairman of the Likud, but was defeated each time by Benjamin Netanyahu . After he was only placed in 36th place on the list in the run-up to the 2015 Knesset election , he left Likud and founded Zehut in March 2015.

Zehut held its first party conference with 2000 participants in February 2017.

The Knesset election in April 2019 was the first parliamentary election Zehut participated in. Polls predicted the party's entry into the Knesset with 4 to 7 seats. Ultimately, however, Zehut did not succeed in entering parliament; the party only got 2.74% of the vote (instead of the required 3.25%).

In the run-up to the parliamentary elections in Israel in September 2019 , other parties tried to reach an agreement with Zehut in order to forestall a right-wing division of the votes. In the course of this, Moshe Feiglin was promised a ministerial position in a potential new government under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu . Zehut then withdrew the candidacy.

program

The party firmly rejects the creation of an independent Palestinian state . Instead, she advocates the annexation of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank , which she describes as the "Israeli heartland". She regards the Oslo peace process as a failure because it led to an increase in Palestinian violence against Israelis. After the annexation of the Palestinian territories, the non-Jewish residents would be given three options: to emigrate with financial support from Israel (an offer that, according to Zehut, a majority of Palestinians would accept); obtain permanent residence but without the same civil rights as Israelis while respecting human rights ; or applying for Israeli citizenship , which would be issued if they prove their “loyalty to the Jewish state” in a “long process”. Through this plan, a Jewish majority between the Mediterranean and Jordan could be ensured.

Zehut calls for lower taxes, a flat tax and the end of state intervention in the economy on economic issues . In addition, land is to be privatized on a large scale. The number of ministries and employees in the public service is to be drastically reduced.

In 2019, Zehut made the legalization of cannabis a central election campaign issue and a condition for future government participation .
