The Journal for Educational Science ( ZfE ) is a peer-reviewed specialist journal for educational science .

The magazine has been published quarterly since 1998 in issues ranging from 130 to 234 pages, as well as online; with VS Verlag since 2004. Special issues on key topics have been published at irregular intervals since 2002 (a total of 60 by the end of 2013).

Content, alignment

The ZfE publishes articles on research results from educational science and related disciplines. The subject is the "" entire life cycle of the person ". The aim of the ZfE is the dissemination of professional educational knowledge from home and abroad in German and English. The magazine sees itself as interdisciplinary and internationally oriented and combines a "commitment to educational science " with a "renunciation of special educational paths"

Each issue deals with a key topic, usually consisting of the editorial on the topic, an encyclopedic overview article to introduce the topic, as well as two to six current research articles from the respective subject area, one of which, if possible, presents international research results in English. The contributions submitted go through an anonymous double-blind peer-review process, which means that the experts who review the journal are just as unaware of the name of the author or the group of authors as the latter are not given the names of the reviewers.

Occasionally, special lecture notes appear under the heading '' Standpunkt '' or under the heading '' Controversy '' disputes about texts that have already been published in the ZfE. As a rule, two (collective) reviews and, from 2000, a '' Selected Bibliography New Releases '' are published in each issue.

organization

The magazine's editors are, among others (since 1998) Jürgen Baumert , Hans-Peter Blossfeld , Ingrid Gogolin , Dieter Lenzen , Thomas Rauschenbach and Christoph Wulf , as well as Annette Scheunpflug (from 2002), Manfred Prenzel and Hans-Günther Roßbach (from 2006). The editors usually meet once a year to plan the issues for the next two years, as well as to receive and discuss the report from the management and the publisher.

The editor is currently (2014) with Jürgen Baumert, Ingrid Gogolin, Harm Kuper and Annette Scheunpflug. The general editorial work is done by an editorial team.

The task of the internationally oriented ZfE Advisory Board consists in particular in advising the editors and in assessing contributions in their own specialist area. In some cases, ZfE advisory boards have also adopted key topics for normal issues or (with) published special issues.

history

In 1996, preliminary talks began to establish a new educational science journal between Dieter Lenzen , then professor at the Free University of Berlin, and Edmund Budrich , the publisher of Leske + Budrich , a medium-sized social science publisher in Opladen . Both were looking for scientists for the editorial team and the advisory board; The aim was to achieve a high plurality in terms of epistemological orientations and in terms of the representation of the sub- and neighboring disciplines. The conception of the magazine was presented in an '' Exposé for a magazine for educational sciences ''. The other founding publishers joined the corresponding publishing contract of November 2, 1996. The founding members of the magazine met for the first time on December 8, 1996 in Hanover. The ZfE first appeared in 1998.

Excellent posts

Numerous ZfE contributions have been awarded by scientific specialist societies, in particular by the German Society for Educational Science (DGfE Young Talent Award). One essay was awarded the Swiss CORECHED Prize.
