Jürgen Baumert

Jürgen Baumert (born November 3, 1941 in Schöningen ) is a German educational researcher who is best known for his contributions to the PISA study . From 2006 to 2008 he was Vice President of the Max Planck Society .

Life

He passed his Abitur in 1961 in Schöningen . This was followed by studying classical philology , history , philosophy and physical education at the universities of Göttingen , Freiburg , Hamburg and Tübingen , supported by the German National Academic Foundation . Baumert received his doctorate in Classical Philology and Philosophy from the University of Tübingen in 1968.

He then studied psychology and educational science at the Universities of Würzburg and Berlin and completed his habilitation in educational science at the Free University (FU) Berlin (1982).

Baumert was Senior Research Scientist at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development Berlin (1982–1991), adjunct professor for educational sciences FU Berlin (1989), professor for educational sciences in Kiel (1991-1996), honorary professor for educational sciences, Humboldt University Berlin (1996), Director and Scientific Member at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development from 1996 to 2010; on June 30, 2010 he was retired. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board at the Jacobs Center on Lifelong Learning and Institutional Development in Bremen, a member of the Leopoldina (since 2004) and the International Academy of Education.
