Zekial Marko

Zekial Marko (born October 31, 1931 in Salinas , California , † May 9, 2008 in Centralia , Washington ), actually Marvin Leroy Schmoker , was an American writer who mainly wrote under the pseudonym John Trinian .

Life

Marko was the son of Wallace Cyril Schmoker and his wife Ruth Halverson; his older brother was the painter and writer Kenn Davis . When the parents divorced, Marko went to San Francisco with his mother and brother . Both brothers first attended a grammar school there and when the USA entered the war in 1941 they switched to a Catholic Boy's Boarding School in San Rafael ( Marin County ).

After the war ended, the family reunited and lived together in San Francisco; the mother had meanwhile married a Henry Davis. Upon adoption by her stepfather, Kenn Davis took his family name and Marko officially changed his name to Zekial Marko . After finishing school, Marko worked in various professions, including a. he was an actor, screenwriter and also for some time bartender for Juanita Musson .

In 1954/1955 Marko made the acquaintance of Kenneth Rexroth and supported him in 1955 with his Six Gallery reading , an event which marked the beginning of the San Francisco Renaissance . Friends of Richard Brautigan , Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac , he is also considered a member of the Beat Generation .

Marko spent his last years in Centralia, where he died on May 9th, 2008 and was also buried there. He was married three times and had a son, Aaron David Schmoker (1958-2005) and two daughters, Belle Marko (* 1956) and Zefra Marko (* 1961).
