Zenkit is a web and mobile app for project and task management . The platform was first published in English by the Karlsruhe company Axonic Informationssysteme GmbH in September 2016.

history

The software manufacturer Axonic started developing an app kit in 2014. The cloud-based app was released as Software as a Service (SaaS) in September 2016 in English.

Zenkit was developed to alleviate the problem of "data silos" caused by too many different programs that allow decentralized storage. When creating the list view, the developers used the successful Wunderlist tool as a guide to offer an alternative after it was discontinued. Zenkit shares many similarities with Trello .

In October 2017, Zenkit released its native iOS app, a month later the native Android app.

In February 2018, Zenkit was released as a desktop app for Linux , macOS and Windows , and in May 2018, Zenkit followed as a Linux snap. This was developed and introduced in cooperation with Canonical , the makers of Ubuntu .

Since June 2018, Zenkit has been available in German, French, Portuguese, Italian, Spanish, Korean, Russian and traditional Chinese in addition to English. Zenkit hosts all content in Germany and is subject to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Functions

Every user can create so-called teams. Each team can contain one or more collections that can be published as a website - and with meta information for search engine optimization or can be integrated into existing websites. A collection includes tasks or items. Tasks can be used to add notes or information, create comments, upload attachments and create labels.

Function overview:

  • Switch between 8 data views (list, Kanban board , table, calendar, mind map , Wiki view, Gantt chart , hierarchy view with subtasks)
  • Custom fields
  • Add team members to a task
  • Offline function
  • Synchronization between different mobile devices and via iCalendar with calendar apps
  • Integrations with other tools such as Microsoft Teams , also using the Zenkit API
  • Global search function
  • Recurring tasks

Business model

Zenkit corresponds to the freemium model. A free variant (Personal Plan) contains basic functions and a few extras. Paying users receive more specialized functions such as recurring tasks (Plus Plan). The Enterprise Plan is for companies with individual requirements.

Market positioning

Zenkit positions itself in the productivity software market. The SaaS solution is available for both B2C and B2B customers. By combining the functions of many providers in a single software, the project management start-up wants to stand out from the competition.

Since Zenkit, as a multifunctional tool, has different data views, the software not only competes with similar providers such as Trello, Wrike or Asana, but also represents a possible alternative to Wunderlist and other monofunctional tools.

reception

  • The magazine press spokesman compares Zenkit with Trello and says if you prefer an alternative direct from Germany, you should take a look at Zenkit.
  • Zdnet considers the software to be a relatively powerful planning system that combines functions from Trello, Microsoft Planner or Wunderlist with basic spreadsheet, database and calendar functions as well as mind mapping.
  • heise.de notes that Zenkit offers a “safe home” for its customers' data . In addition, users from more than 100 countries would use the software.
  • In the book On the Tablet, which was published at the end of 2017, Sandra Schulze declared Zenkit to be the best, most beautiful and most versatile project management tool .
